Should we pull leftover eco hang-tags before EmpCo, or use them up?

Quick answer

Pull them. Leftover Eco, Sustainable, Conscious, or homemade-badge hang-tags still ship as a claim the diner or shopper sees. EmpCo applies from 27 September 2026. Using them up so the carton is empty is not a legal strategy. Checkout and live-copy freeze lives in the Shopify EmpCo audit. Collection titles live in Eco collection names. Do not invent a leftover-tag percentage.

EmpCo treats vague environmental praise and homemade sustainability labels as unfair for EU consumers from 27 September 2026, including hang-tags in the parcel. US packs still need a reasonable basis under the FTC Green Guides. This page does not publish a typical leftover-tag attach rate. Score leftover adjectives in the green claims calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Should we pull leftover eco hang-tags before EmpCo, or use them up?

Pull them. A leftover Eco, Sustainable, Conscious, or homemade-badge tag is still a consumer claim when it ships. EmpCo applies from 27 September 2026. Using the carton up is not a defense. Keep a tag only when it names a live cert or fiber file for that SKU. Do not invent a leftover-tag percentage.

Is this the same as the Shopify hang-tag copy audit?

No. That page rewrites live checkout and hang-tag copy. This page is physical leftover stock already printed. Do not recook the copy kit to cover a carton in the warehouse.

We already paid the printer. Can we ship them on EU orders until they run out?

No. Paid print is not a license. Pull EU and UK parcels first if you must sequence. Reprint to the freeze. Do not run a last Eco tags sale.

Can leftover firsts wear the Eco tag so we move them?

No. If the unit would still pass as a first, it is not an Eco leftover. Seconds stay on the seconds URL. Warehouse leftover stays in the unit fence.

What do we measure if not leftover-tag %?

Cartons pulled, tagged-unshipped units stripped, PDPs that still disagree with the parcel, and CS lines that still say leftover Eco. Units moved on a banned tag are not proof the claim is allowed.
